My first bit of advice is where ever possible hire a professional! You were meant to enjoy your wedding day & when you're stressed over details like center pieces you loose site of what really matters. I know budgets don't always afford a coordinator or planner but if you can, then do it! A good helper is a life saver, seriously!
My next bit of advice is when something doesn't go right on your day, remember this one thought; you have him, he has you period. On your day this is what really matters & the wrong flowers, no socks with the tuxes or a hung-over grooms man can't change your love for each other.
That being said, you do want your day to be beautiful & fit your dream. Having the right professionals on your side will make that happen for you.
So, when choosing your photographer be sure to visit them, get advice, spend some time asking questions like, why do you photograph weddings? How long have you been doing this, what do you love most about your job. These questions will help you get to know them & allow you to decide if the person is someone you're going to like having with you on your wedding day. Also be sure to visit & interview at least 3 photographers. The same goes with all your vendors & remember, we work for you. Tell us your vision, its our jobs to make it happen for you.
Music, flowers & decor should all be interviewed too. And ask for references! There is nothing worse than having to wait for your DJ with the ceremony music to show up while your guests are sitting down already. Or if your florist ran out of your flowers so the bouquets are all different that you expected. The biggest issues with, lets say, "semi-pro's" is being late. If you as around, you'll find out there are those you should interview & those not to call. & make sure the DJ actually has the music you want & isn't going to download it in the lobby right before the ceremony.
Ok, that is the scary negative side of things. To ensure you don't get caught in these situations hire reputable pro's. Here are a few I can reccomend off the top of my head:
There are so many great and talented people in the Rogue Valley that I can't possible list them all. We also work a great deal in the Napa Valley & San Francisco areas which have so many great vendors & venues. If you search the area & when you talk to us I'd be happy to tell you if we've worked there before & give you an honest list of pro's & con's.
